Mike got his ‘broadcast’ start playing tunes on the local collage campus ‘closed circuit’ network in the early 70s. He got serious in 1985 when he took a position as a host for a jazz and blues show on the local public radio station, WBNI. He has been having a ball at Northeast Indiana Public Radio, ‘www.nipr.fm’, ever since. You can still hear Mike playing jazz and a little blues every other Tuesday from 7pm until 11pm Eastern time in Northeast Indiana, Northwest Ohio and South Central Michigan on WBOI.
But his real love is the blues. Mike first ‘discovered’ the blues when he heard Sonny Terry and Brownie McGee playing at a small local club in 1973. There was no turning back, he was a serious blues fan from then on. He likes all manner of blues, although he may be a little partial to a good harp or a good ripping guitar, but hey it’s all good and he wants to play it all for you.
While Mike still enjoys doing his Jazz show on WBOI, there just wasn’t as much ‘blues time’ as he would like. So when the opportunity to do a blues only show for a blues only station, he was all over that. And now MikeD Live is here on TWOB. Stop by and listen to Mike playing his blues heart out for all of our TWOB blues fans!
